Do Aquarium Lights & Filter need to be ON all day?

Of course not I too have planted aquarium and it has also light and filter system but its not required thing to keep the light and filter system ON all day.For aquariums without plants the light can be kept for 10 to 12 hours and filter should be kept ON all time, if not at least for 12 hours.
For aquariums with plants the light can be kept for 5 hours and filter should be kept ON during day time and can be switched OFF at the night time.
